As I sit here early this morning drinking coffee, visiting with Jesus, and contemplating turning another year older tomorrow, I am thinking about where I want to go with my life. With 2022 right around the corner, I am once again inspired to set some goals for the next year of my life. Goals for my walk with Jesus, goals for my parenting life, goals for my health and fitness, goals for my property management work and my fitness and nutrition business.
First I want to talk about goals in general and what works for me and what doesn’t. I have, in the past, set some pretty unrealistic goals for my self for the New Year and I always fail within the first 30 days. I have learned that I need to be realistic about my goals so that I actually have a fighting chance at achieving them. I have also learned that in order to achieve goals, I have to have a realistic and workable plan that will get me to those goals. They need to be measurable, and have a deadline. I need to structure both long term and short term goals all with a plan for an end result. It sounds complicated because it is. It takes a lot of thought, some sacrifice and a lot of flexibility to come up with goals, create a plan and execute the plan to achieve the goal. But there is nothing like achieving a goal you set for yourself. There is nothing like the pride you have in yourself for putting in the work and enjoying your own success. Not for anyone but yourself. That sounds selfish, but when you better yourself for yourself, I find that everyone around you benefits.
I am still contemplating what my goals are for 2022. I have some in mind, but I like to wait to set New Year goals until after my time of prayer and fasting in January. My church has 21 days of prayer and fasting to start the New Year every year and I love that time to reflect on what worked and what didn’t in the previous year. The Lord and I do a good hard look at where I need to go from here and I find that He is the best counselor to help me set my goals and come up with a plan.
I hope my goal setting process was helpful for you. Trust me, I have failed so many times at achieving goals I have set for myself. I have to move on from that and go forward and try to learn from my past failures. But I am leaving those failures in the past and moving forward with the next year. I’m sure I will make more mistakes, but God says that His grace is enough and that is enough for me.
I pray that you all have a very blessed, safe and healthy Christmas and New Year. Enjoy your family and your friends! I’m looking forward to enjoying mine. Love you all!!❤️❤️❤️
