Obesity is not considered a disease, but it should be. It can lead to death via Heart disease, Stroke, and Diabetes. Studies have also shown that it can lead to immunity deficiencies which make it harder for the body to fight illnesses due to bacterial and viral infections such as Covid. I have lost friends to these diseases because of Obesity and it really makes me so very sad because I know it is 100% preventable. Heart Disease is the number one killer of women. And while some Heart Disease is not brought on by Obesity, most of it is. According to the CDC, 1 out of every 3 women dies of Heart Disease. That troubles me. It really does. And we have got to do something about it. We don’t want to talk about it, but we have to. This is something that has to be discussed.
I am not attacking any woman’s looks, it’s not about how you look, it is about your health. For some reason we have decided to glorify unhealthy bodies and I find that very scary. Now, I do not think you have to be a size 2 to be healthy, that is not what I am saying, and I also believe healthy looks different on everyone, but this shift in society to say that women that obviously have an unhealthy amount of body fat are OK is not OK. They are not OK. They are at a significant risk of developing one of these diseases and dying, and that is not OK. I can’t sit back anymore and ignore that. This is not “fat shaming” or any other cancel culture language you want to put on it. I am genuinely concerned about this.
So what is an unhealthy body fat percentage? Well, according to lots of studies, anything more than 32% is when the risks for developing obesity related diseases starts rising. The problem is, it is very difficult to determine your body fat percentage accurately. There are several methods, but honestly, most of the ones the general public has access to are not accurate. We have the BMI scale, but that doesn’t take body composition into consideration which is problematic for people that have a lot of muscle. The circumference method is probably the most accurate way to get an idea of your body fat percentage. There are lots of calculators online you can use. In my opinion, I think you need to use several methods and take them all into consideration and talk to your trainer about it.
What is the solution? It’s really simple, and complex at the same time. All it takes is a few right choices really. We want to be able to eat and drink what we want, and as much as we want and still be healthy. Well, you can’t. You are going to have to make some sacrifices. That is the hard truth. It doesn’t mean you can never have pizza or cupcakes again, but it does mean that you are going to have to make some changes. You need to prioritize your health. You are going to have to do some things you don’t want to do. Somebody that has kidney disease does not want to have to have dialysis, but if they don’t they will die, so they do. Obesity is the same thing. If you don’t make the changes you need to make, you are going to die. That’s just the truth. Is it going to be easy? Nope. But you can absolutely do it. Yes you do have time to exercise, you don’t want to go there with me, because I will absolutely prove you wrong. And yes you can afford help, I will prove you wrong with that to. And yes you can make healthy food and drink choices. You don’t have to spend hours in the gym or cut your calories to 1200 and starve yourself either. You can make small changes a little bit at the time that will make a huge difference and even save your life. You can do this, and stop letting society tell you that you can't. Stop blaming your age or your hormones. Its time you take responsibility for your health. You just have to make the choice. I absolutely want to help you. Even if you think you can't afford it, call me. Lets try to figure that out. I am not going to let money get in the way of your health. I'm ready to get in the ring and fight with you to get it under control for good. Because it really is a matter of life and death.
